The True Deep Dish Pizza Experience in Chicago

My First Deep Dish Pizza Experience in Chicago – Giordano’s in Greektown

On my recent trip to Chicago, I knew I had to try deep dish pizza, and we ended up going to Giordano’s in Greektown. It’s a cozy spot with that classic Chicago charm, and when they brought out the pizza… I was honestly stunned. This thing was massive. I knew deep dish was thick, but I didn’t expect a single slice to feel like an entire meal.

We ordered a side salad just to balance things out a bit (or so we thought), and between that and just one slice, I was completely full. I couldn’t believe it. The crust was buttery and crisp, the cheese was gooey and melty, and the layers of toppings and sauce made each bite feel like a full-on event. It was my first time trying authentic deep dish, and it totally lived up to the hype.

Deep dish pizza with tomato sauce and olives

I was visiting Chicago for a concert, and when I got back, I realized I was starving again. And those leftovers? Oh yeah, they came through. I ended up eating three slices by myself. THREE. I’m still not sure how I pulled that off because this pizza is dense in the best way possible. But I guess when something tastes that good, you just find a way.

We tried a few different toppings, but my favorite had to be the classic with olives. Salty, savory, cheesy perfection. There’s something so satisfying about biting into a deep dish slice and seeing that cheese pull and that thick layer of tomato sauce on top.

If you’re ever in Chicago and haven’t had deep dish before, Giordano’s in Greektown is a must. Just don’t make the rookie mistake of thinking you’ll be able to eat more than a slice or two—unless, of course, you’re late-night hungry like I was. 😅
