Comfort in a Bowl: My Visit to Han Bat Sul Lung Tang in K-Town LA
If you’re ever in LA’s Koreatown and find yourself craving something warm, comforting, and deeply satisfying, run—don’t walk—to Han Bat Sul Lung Tang. Tucked into a quiet stretch of Wilshire, this spot is as lowkey as it gets from the outside. But once you’re in, you’ll understand why there’s always a steady stream of regulars and why this place has earned cult-favorite status.
I finally made my way there after hearing people rave about their ox tail soup (sullungtang), and let me just say: they do it perfectly. You have a few select options to choose from meat wise, such as their combination or brisket. I opted for their classic brisket. The broth is rich, cloudy white, and deeply beefy without being heavy. It’s the kind of soul-soothing flavor that makes you close your eyes after the first bite. Each bowl comes out steaming hot, with tender, melt-in-your-mouth pieces of meat and noodles.

But it doesn’t stop there. What really took the experience to the next level were the banchan (side dishes). The kimchi is punchy, well-fermented, and has that addictive tang that pairs beautifully with the mellow richness of the soup. The kkakdugi? Crunchy, spicy, and just perfect. I could honestly eat them both by the jar.

As for the service—it was fast, efficient, and no-frills in the best way. You sit down, place your order, and within minutes, your hot bowl arrives. No fuss, just great food done right.
Han Bat is one of those places that reminds you how powerful a simple dish can be when done with care and tradition. If you’re looking for fancy, this isn’t it. But if you’re after a deeply satisfying, comforting meal that hits every note, Han Bat Sul Lung Tang is a must-visit.
